The government announced on the 6th of the new government’s energy policy direction and decided to expand the nuclear power ratio to more than 30% in the 2030 national greenhouse price reduction target (NDC) energy mix ratio. The abolition of nuclear power plants was a unnecessary policy that did not fit the ‘global standard’.
The government has made it clear that it will expand its nuclear power plants. The nuclear power plant, which had a life expectancy, will continue to drive on the premise of safety inspection. Renewable energy and coal-fired and liquefied natural gas (LNG) power generation ratios were not specified in detail. The government said that other energy support ratios will be included in the 10th Basic Plan for Power Supply and Supply, which will be announced in the fourth quarter of this year.
An official from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said, It is difficult to determine the ratio when the demand for renewable energy is not confirmed. The official explained that coal and LNG also set up NDC in 2030 and needed a variety of reviews. It is pointed out that the announcement is not overwhelmed as an energy policy blueprint because it is not possible to expand the ratio of nuclear power plants, but the reduced energy sources are poor.
Originally, the government’s NDC Energy Mix was 23.9%in nuclear, 21.8%of coal, 19.5%of LNG, and 30.2%of renewable. According to the explanation of the Ministry of Industry, the government’s energy mix ratio is not considered for power demand.
Moreover, if the nuclear power ratio increases by 6.1% as the government announcement, the ratio adjustment in coal, LNG, and renewable is inevitable. It is safe to reduce coal power generation, but it is difficult to determine which energy sources will be reduced in coal, renewable energy and LNG. An official from the Ministry of Industry also said, It is hard to tell and say that there is no decision on the proportion of other energy sources.
Among them, the European Union (EU) caught the nuclear power plant in the green classification system (Green Taxonomi) on the 6th. When the government came up, the government said, The EU and the world are going to increase the utilization of nuclear power plants.
The EU has included nuclear power plants in the tactics and decided to expand the NDC’s renewable energy ratio from 32%to 40%. It is also pointed out that the EU’s renewable energy expansion is omitted, and it is said that it is the interpretation of the hydrangea. It is a criticism that it does not specify the specific renewable energy ratio in the energy policy direction presented by the Ministry of Industry, but only highlights the expansion of nuclear power plants.
Jang Daul Greenpeace Policy expert said, The Ministry of Industry has significantly raised the amount of renewable energy targets for carbon neutrality and energy security.
Mr. Jang pointed out that Korea, where the proportion of renewable energy generation is the last OECD, will give up its export competitiveness.
